Marketing today is tougher than it ever has been, people have learned to tune out marketing on so many levels. At this point you NEED to get their attention in the first 2-3 seconds or they are already gone.
Internet marketing is even worse, people have no time for ads, and they are quick to move on if they think you are selling something. The key to catching peoples eye in that critical first few seconds is to Be New, Be Cool, or Be Gone. It has to be novel, different, there has to be some kind of wow factor right up front. Slap them in the forehead with the Wow and make sure its Cool. If you can grab their attention long enough to leave them with an image how cool, your ad is, you’re more likely to be remembered.
This Stunning and cool video made by HP is a great example.
Using a new photographic technique called “Tilt Shift” perspective, it creates a surreal image that you aren’t sure if the image is of a miniature or something full sized. There is no mention of HP until the very end, so it appears to be almost for pure entertainment, and therefore not immediately rejected as “another Ad”.
When they do mention HP, the tag line “Create Amazing” is added to it, which perfectly describes this video. It leaves you with a very positive feeling about the company and its capabilities.
